Overview

Bernard Cryan is a patent litigator representing medical device and life science clients.

Bernard is a registered patent attorney with a strong background in biophysics, biochemistry, and mathematics. His experience includes patent and trade secret litigation. Bernard is particularly skilled in statistical and numerical analysis, probabilistic modeling, and experimental design, especially as applied to biological problems. Using his exceptional analytical skills, he delves deep into the complexities of clients’ technologies, offering thoughtful arguments and insight to advance their legal position.

Bernard passionately serves his pro bono clients. He has represented underserved San Diego residents to resolve guardianship disputes and individuals from Afghanistan to apply for asylum in the United States.

Before joining Fish & Richardson, Bernard was an intern to the Honorable Jimmie Reyna of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and an extern to the Honorable John Tunheim of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Bernard published an article in the Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (Vol. 101) discussing how federal courts can fix several issues in patent marking law. During law school, Bernard served as an articles editor for the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology (Vol. 22), and was a member of the law school’s patent competition team.
