Jakub Kopczak is a European and German patent attorney as well as a representative before the UPC. He focuses his practice on patent drafting and prosecution, expert opinions on validity and infringement, and counseling in the entire field of mechanical engineering. Jakub further has significant experience in opposition and appeal proceedings, particularly in the field of medical devices.
He is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the German Federal Supreme Court in nullity proceedings, and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) of the European Union.
Jakub successfully completed a master's program in European Intellectual Property Law. Among other things, the program deals with European and international private and civil procedural law as well as procedural regulations according to the European Patent Convention and the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court. The program also focuses on patent infringement and revocation proceedings in Great Britain, France, and Germany with particular emphasis on procedural matters and strategies in pan-European patent disputes.
Before practicing intellectual property law, Jakub was an officer in the German Federal Armed Forces. He studied aeronautics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Jakub worked for more than eight years in a renowned Munich-based IP law firm.
