Overview

James Cowan focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation in electrical and computer technologies.  He was previously a summer associate with the firm in the summer of 2021.

James began legal practice during law school in the George Washington University Law School’s Prisoner & Reentry Clinic, representing and providing assistance to federal inmates in bids for compassionate release and parole. James also served as an editor for the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal, which published his student article discussing the Federal Circuit’s approach to assessing the patentability of software-based patents.

Prior to law school, James was an instructor at The Coding School, for which he taught Python and C++ to underrepresented students in STEM ranging from elementary school students to college freshmen.
