Jeanel Sunga is an associate who focuses her practice on patent and trade secret litigation. Her casework spans a wide variety of technologies, including consumer electronics, software, telecommunications, and computer technologies.
Jeanel has experience at various stages of litigation and has helped develop strategy for key issues in several of her cases. Jeanel was also previously a summer associate at the firm. Her experience includes preparing discovery requests and responses, drafting invalidity contentions, preparing for and taking depositions of 30(b)(6) witnesses, drafting dispositive and other discovery-related motions, assisting technical experts with opening reports, and assisting in various pretrial matters, from deposition designations to witness preparation.
For trade secret cases specifically, she has been involved with drafting motions concerning temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, researching various damages theories based on the misappropriation of trade secrets, and developing defensive strategies related to non-competition agreements and breach of contract claims. She has also been involved in Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission.
During law school, Jeanel worked for two legal clinics: the Domestic Violence Project Clinic and the Health Rights Law Clinic. Respectively, she helped write legal memoranda that helped to secure child support payments and assisted Washington, D.C., Medicaid recipients with ensuring proper healthcare coverage. Jeanel was the executive managing editor of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and published a note in the journal entitled "Trade Secrets and the GDPR: 'Reasonable Efforts' of Cybersecurity and the Right for Trade Secrets to Be Forgotten."
