A talented lawyer and imaginative life scientist with a doctorate in biochemistry, Moritz clearly understands his clients’ innovations and how best to protect them. He excels in patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and post-grant proceedings involving innovations across the life sciences, biotech, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical sectors.

In advising clients, Moritz looks to the future, anticipating challenges, changes, risks, and opportunities. Diligent and hardworking, he delves into the details of each invention to build strong and effective patents. When taking on a case, he studies the history, science, and law, listens to and learns from his clients, and then determines the best path forward to achieve the client's goals.

When third parties challenge a client's patent, Moritz is well prepared to defend that client's rights before the European Patent Office. His confident, clear, and compelling arguments grounded in the facts have resulted in resounding victories for his clients in EPO opposition proceedings against industry-leading companies, including Merck, Pfizer, and Roche Diagnostics.

Moritz chose a legal career to help protect and bring medical innovations to market to improve the lives of patients worldwide. He thrives on learning about innovations in his field and loves the challenge of working with knowledgeable and creative innovators.

In addition to maintaining a dynamic legal practice, Moritz heads the Life Sciences Group of the firm’s Munich office, which he grew from a one-person operation to a thriving group. As a group leader, he mentors technology specialists and associates, contributing to the firm’s solid pipeline of skilled, up-and-coming talent.

In his spare time, Moritz enjoys going out for a run with his son even though the boy is already the faster runner.
