Overview

Neal Persky, Ph.D., concentrates his practice on intellectual property in the areas of patent portfolio management and opinions and strategic counseling.

Prior to joining the firm, Neal worked in the legal industry as a technical advisor and as a patent agent. His practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in the areas of chemistry, chemical processes, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Neal has prepared and prosecuted U.S. and foreign utility and design patent applications for clients ranging from large international corporations to individual inventors. Neal has prepared non-infringement analyses, patentability analyses, validity analyses, and patent portfolio analyses for startup companies and acquisition-related due diligence scenarios. He has also prepared litigation-related opinions and expert analyses.

Neal received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, cum laude, from Austin College in 1993. While an undergraduate, Neal prepared deuterated cyclic compounds to determine the mechanism of solvolysis and subsequent methyl migration. Neal received his Ph.D. in chemistry, specifically in organic chemistry, from the University of Utah at Salt Lake City in 1998. His Ph.D. research involved the study of the self-assembly and the self-recognition of model compounds to gain insight into biological systems. After earning his Ph.D., Neal worked as an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow in the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research at Mainz, Germany. As a Humboldt Fellow, Neal's research involved the synthesis of novel NIR (Near-Infrared) fluorescent organic dyes for possible application as biological markers.
