Overview

With more than 25 years of professional experience with technology companies, including working in-house and as outside counsel in the telecommunications and e-commerce spaces, Noel Chakkalakal brings a holistic view of his clients’ concerns and priorities to his litigation practice.

Noel’s professional history includes work as an engineer for both a leading Fortune 20 technology company and for a start-up organization, as an in-house attorney handling both patent prosecution and patent litigation for a leading telecommunications company, as outside counsel prosecuting patent applications for major technology companies, and as outside counsel managing patent matters with the patent group of a national law firm. He now applies this broad-based experience to his litigation practice, anticipating and accommodating the legal and business issues his clients encounter. He is particularly adept at working directly with engineers, software developers, and technology-centric executives to address their concerns about upcoming litigation and guide them through the process.

Noel frequently works with clients seeking a swift, cost-effective resolution to patent infringement claims that have been leveled against them, as well as with clients seeking to protect their intellectual property. He has first-hand experience with the business realities facing his clients, and he is able to devise litigation approaches designed to support those needs. In addition, his work as a former patent prosecutor enables him to evaluate patents effectively to better inform his litigation strategy.

Noel served as an extern to the Honorable A. Joseph Fish, former chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He is also registered to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. When he isn’t practicing law, he spends most of his time enjoying family and sports and trying to keep up with his young daughter.

Experience

Represented a national watch and fashion designer in litigation over Bluetooth patents used in wearable devices. After more than four years of litigation in District Court and the Federal Circuit, Fish’s client won summary judgment on every issue.

  • Throughout his career, Noel has provided pro bono legal services alongside the Dallas Housing Crisis Center, an organization dedicated to supporting local people facing homelessness. He currently co-sponsors a monthly clinic for those in need.
