He represents both petitioners and patent owners in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Boardand litigates to monetize, enforce, and defend IP rights at the International Trade Commission and in District Courts. His practice includes legal advice on other IP rights, including trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, and copyrights, and prosecuting patents before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
A natural problem-solver, Sangki formulates effective IP protection strategies that are based on a deep familiarity with his clients’ technologies. He has extensive experience across a wide variety of electrical, software, and mechanical arts, including telecommunications, networking and network security, semiconductors, speech recognition, batteries, and standard-essential patents, including video coding standards, automotive technologies, OLED fabrications and circuit controls, haptic technology, consumer electronics, fiber optic networks, hydraulic devices, and medical devices.
Before earning his law degree in the United States, Sangki earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Seoul National University, and in Korea he worked as a patent attorney involved in a variety of patent and litigation issues. Drawing on his vast experience working with Korean businesses in the U.S., Sangki partners with his global clients to overcome the unique challenges that result from differences in culture, language, and legal systems in global business settings. He is also adept at helping U.S. companies evaluate opinions and legal issues in Korea.
Sangki’s pro bono practice has included representing a child in foster care through the Children’s Law Center and supporting clients in immigration matters, as well as providing pro bono patent prosecution support for individual inventors.
In his free time, Sangki enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, from hiking and camping with his family to playing golf and tennis.
