Overview

Todd Garcia, Ph.D., has been helping clients in the life sciences industry protect and monetize their valuable intellectual property for more than 20 years. He brings this deep experience not only to clients, but also to his leadership roles as managing principal of Fish & Richardson’s Boston office and co-leader of the firm’s national Life Sciences Industry Team.

Todd’s practice emphasizes patent prosecution and client counseling, opinion work, due diligence, and the development and management of patent portfolios. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies to some of the most respected medical research institutions in the world. Todd regularly handles portfolios involving hundreds of filings across more than 40 jurisdictions. Along the way, he’s helped clients protect the innovations behind life-changing pharmaceuticals, including those treating kidney disorders, neurological disorders, including ALS, and many others 

Todd has dedicated a significant portion of his practice to helping clients evaluate IP portfolios through due diligence studies. He has advised start-up companies through all stages of growth, including every round of capital funding, high-value mergers and acquisitions, and IPOs.

  • Todd has previous experience as a legal extern for MIT. He has research experience as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Rhode Island, where he performed bacteriology research, and as a research assistant with American Cyanamid, Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, New York, doing DTP vaccine research and production. Todd also served as a research assistant for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center in New York doing foot-and-mouth disease virus research.
